What are my options for my salvage car left in an autobody shop?
Sadas D asked:
Hello,
I have a car crash last week and my auto was towed to a body shop and I am still waiting for the estimation. The left front of my car was damaged which makes the belt inside rubbing inside and so i assume it could not run. The guy told me that the cost may be very high.

However, myy insurance does not cover the cost of damages in the accident. The used auto of similar type is selling 8000. What should I do if they estimate the cost of temporary repair to be more than 3000/4000?
If i do not want to repair at that cost, what can i do????
I am totally lost and I hope someone can really give me a direction.
thanks

Sorry about your situation. Lets see if I can make a couple of suggestions. Usually the rule of thumb for an insurance company is if the repair equals 75% or over the value of the vehicle they will not repair it. Looks like you almost fall into this category. Have the shop complete the estimate. If the repair goes over the above then look for another alternative. If I were in your situation and the repair was under 3000 I would have it done but make sure all repairs are made, internal and external. If you do not have the repair made then you could try to sell the vehicle as is. You would not get 8000 for it but you may get a good price depending on the damage. You may be able to do a little bending to get it to run for the sale. This would increase the price. Set a time frame to sell it. When this passes consider selling it for parts. Or part it out yourself. Much of the time you can make more money out of your vehicle this way. If this doesn't work for you then your only alternative is the scrap yard. They will not give you a very good price. This would be my last choice. Hope this helps and Good Luck.

Cut your losses and sell it to highest offer then buy a $2k car, there are real good ones that'll do the same service as an 8000 car.
